Collection: Chao Zhou teapots
Ceramics from Chaozhou have been known in China for several thousand years. During the Tang and Song dynasties, they became more popular for making teaware and kettles for boiling water.
The products are made from Hong Ni red clay, which is extracted from the surroundings of Chaozhou in Guangdong Province. This mountainous area produces fine-grained clay that is easy to work with when mixed with water. Traditionally, the items are made entirely by hand and shaped on a pottery wheel. After firing, Chaozhou Hong Ni takes on a deep red-orange color and a natural sheen due to its high iron content.
Chaozhou ceramics are highly porous and develop beautifully over time. Chaozhou teapots are suitable for any type of tea, but they are especially good for Guangdong oolongs.
