Chinese black tea from Yunnan province, historically known as the Dali state, inspired the name Dian Hong (滇红, Red Tea from Dian).

A relatively young variety, its history spans 90 years. Dian Hong was created to compete with Indian and Ceylon teas in the international market, and it has gained popularity worldwide. The secret lies in using leaves from large-leaved tea trees of the Assam variety, which provide a strong flavor and pleasant astringency.

This cake is made from high-altitude, ecologically clean tea leaves sourced from the Wuliangshan mountain and pressed for Art of Tea. The goal was to create a straightforward and delicious black tea with a flavor profile reminiscent of "that classic Indian elephant tea."

Aroma: Fresh, chocolate-tobacco, with notes of vanilla and berries.

Flavor: Bold, velvety, and slightly sweet with a pleasant astringency and berry tartness. The long, enveloping aftertaste features black berry notes.

Effects: Warms, calms, and relaxes while maintaining energy levels.

Production: Harvested in March 2023, pressed in March 2023, Wuliangshan mountain, Pu'er district, Yunnan province, China.

Format: 100-gram cake.

Brewing Instructions: Any familiar tea ware works well for Dian Hong. Preheat your teaware before brewing. Use boiling water. Porcelain enhances the aroma, while clay brings out a rounder, more pronounced flavor. The infusion method allows for multiple flavor profiles from a single brewing, while steeping saves time and provides a single, well-expressed flavor. Brewing over an open flame fully reveals the tea's potential, resulting in a rich and robust brew.
